Summary
There is no better place to experience the wonders of migration than the famous coastline of north Norfolk! On this new 7-day, 2-centre, birdwatching tour, we will work our way through this scenic region, beginning in the west in Hunstanton and then moving east around the coast to the reed-fringed wetland of the Norfolk Broads. We hope to find a wonderful array of migrant waterfowl, waders, passerines and seabirds, which rub shoulders in September with local specialities such as Common Crane, Avocet and Bearded Tit. Of course, at this time of year anything can turn up – especially with an easterly breeze – and we will be hoping for a rarity or two along the way, such as Wryneck, Red-backed Shrike or perhaps even a Red-flanked Bluetail!
- Explore Norfolk’s north coast & visit some of the region’s most iconic reserves
- Migrating chats, warblers, flycatchers & thrushes
- Good chance of something rarer!
- Waders such as Curlew Sandpiper, Little Stint. Golden Plover & Ruff
- Explore the wetlands of the Norfolk Broads
- Common Crane, Marsh Harrier, Bearded Tit, Bittern & Barn Owl all possible
- Enjoy movements of seaduck, skuas, divers & others
- Led by an expert Naturetrek naturalist

Tour Leader: Brian Small
Brian was a teacher for 12 years and lives in Suffolk with his wife. He has guided tours since 2000, leading over 100 tours to 30 countries, including Malaysia, Argentina, Brazil, Italy, Georgia and New Mexico. He has a special affinity with the birds and butterflies of Switzerland (walking on the glaciers with his dad from the age of 7) and Cape May on the New Jersey coast.
He is also a talented bird artist - examples of his work can be seen in the acclaimed Handbook of the Birds of the World (HBW), and the Helm Field Guide Birds of Madagascar and the Indian Ocean - and his current projects include work on two major new guides: the Birds of Southern Brazil and the Birds of Greater Southern Africa.
In his spare time at home, he concentrates on working his local patch at Southwold, Walberswick and the Blyth estuary on the Suffolk coast, searching especially for migrants and gulls.
