AITO sets criteria regarding ownership, finance and quality which must be satisfied before new companies are admitted to membership. All members are required to adhere to a Code of Business Practice which encourages high operational standards and conduct.

Financial Security
An AITO member is required to arrange financial protection for all holidays and other arrangements (including accommodation only) booked by customers with the member under the AITO logo. This financial protection applies to customers who are resident in the UK at the time of booking and to most overseas customers who have booked directly with the member. In doing so, the member must comply with UK Government regulations. Members are required to submit details of their financial protection arrangements to AITO on a regular basis.

Accurate Brochures & Websites
All members do their utmost to ensure that all their brochures and other publications, print or electronic, clearly and accurately describe the holidays and services offered.

Professional Service & Continual Improvements
All members are committed to high standards of service and believe in regular and thorough training of employees. Members continually seek to review and improve their holidays. They listen to their customers and always welcome suggestions for improving standards.

Monitoring Standards
AITO endeavours to monitor quality standards regularly. All customers should be directed to leave feedback on www.aito.com; the results of which are scrutinised by the Association.

Sustainable Tourism
AITO members acknowledge the importance of AITO’s Sustainable Tourism ethos, which recognises the social, economic and environmental responsibilities of tour operating.

Customer Relations
All members endeavour to deal swiftly and fairly with any issues their customers may raise. In the unlikely event that a dispute between an AITO member and a customer cannot be settled amicably, either party can call on a low cost arbitration service to bring the matter to a speedy and acceptable conclusion.

Passport & Visa Requirements and Health Formalities

Health Formalities

It is essential that you to check with your GP for all your travel health requirements, immunisations and vaccinations. Travel health Information can be found on these websites:

Where Yellow Fever vaccinations are mentioned below, it is currently a requirement for entry into that country to have a certificate, no matter the origin of travel, i.e. if travelling directly from the UK. Many other countries require a certificate if you arrive from a country that has a risk of yellow fever transmission, even if you are only transiting the risk country. Regardless of the requirement for a certificate, there are countries where yellow fever is a risk and a vaccination is recommended.

Passport & Visa Requirements

Below are the passport and visa requirements for the countries that Naturetrek currently visit. Listed in alphabetical order by continent, this information is for guidance only. Whilst we make every effort to keep this information up to date, entry requirements can and do change on a regular basis and without warning.

For countries where the visa application process is less than straight forward, more detailed information will be supplied by Naturetrek on booking (and is stated as much below).

We would like to point out that many countries state that passports must still be valid for a certain amount of time at the date of entry, but we would recommend the passport is valid for that time at the date of departure, to be on the safe side.

Travel to Europe from 1st January 2021 onwards

Passport validity and entry requirements for travel to the EU and Schengen area countries has changed from 1st January 2021. UK passport holders should therefore check their passport to see whether it is still valid for travel from this date onwards.

From 1st January 2021:
1. You should have at least 3 months left on your UK passport from your date of leaving a country.
2. If you renewed a 10 year passport before it expired, extra months may have been added to your passport’s expiry date. These extra months over 10 years will not count towards the 6 months that must be remaining.

The exception to this rule is the Republic of Ireland, where your passport only needs to be valid for the length of your stay.

The new rules will apply to passports issued by the UK, Gibraltar, Guernsey, the Isle of Man and Jersey.

Please check the travel advice for each individual country on the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) website for the exact requirements. If you are unsure, please follow the link to check your passport validity https://www.passport.service.gov.uk/check-a-passport and please follow the next link for more information about how to re-new your passport: https://www.gov.uk/renew-adult-passport/renew

It is also important to note that you do not need a visa as long as you have not travelled in the Schengen area for more than 90 days in any given 180 day period (travels to Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus and Romania are not included in the 90 days limit because although they are members of the EU they are not a part of the Schengen area).

Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018

Please see below more information and consumer key rights under the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018, which we are duty-bound and happy to detail here. Naturetrek takes its responsibilities of the regulations very seriously and all of your rights are covered in our Booking Conditions, Technical Details, and pre-departure information.

General

The combination of travel services offered to you is a package within the meaning of the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018.

Therefore you will benefit from all rights applying to the packages. Naturetrek will be fully responsible for the proper performance of the package as a whole.

Additionally, as required by law, Naturetrek has protection in place to refund your payments and, where transport is included in the package, to ensure your repatriation in the event that it becomes insolvent.

Key rights under the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018

  • Travellers will receive all essential information about the package before concluding the package travel contract.
  • There is always at least one trader who is liable for the proper performance of all the travel services included in the contract.
  • Travellers are given an emergency telephone number or details of a contact point where they can get in touch with the organiser or the travel agent.
  • Travellers may transfer the package to another person, on reasonable notice and possibly subject to additional costs.
  • The price of the package may only be increased if specific costs rise (for instance fuel prices), and if expressly provided for in the contract, and in any event not later than 20 days before the start of the package. If the price increase exceeds 8% of the price of the package, the traveller may terminate the contract. If the organiser reserves the right to a price increase, the traveller has a right to a price reduction if there is a decrease in the relevant costs.
  • Travellers may terminate the contract without paying any termination fee and get a full refund of any payments if any of the essential elements of the package, other than the price, has changed significantly. If before the start of the package the trader responsible for the package cancels the package, travellers are entitled to a refund and compensation where appropriate.
  • Travellers may terminate the contract without paying any termination fee before the start of the package in the event of exceptional circumstances, for instance if there are serious security problems at the destination which are likely to affect the package.
  • Additionally, travellers may at any time before the start of the package terminate the contract in return for an appropriate and justifiable termination fee.
  • If, after the start of the package, significant elements of the package cannot be provided as agreed, suitable alternative arrangements will have to be offered to the traveller at no extra cost. Travellers may terminate the contract without paying any termination fee, where services are not performed in accordance with the contract and this substantially affects the performance of the package and the organiser fails to remedy the problem.
  • Travellers are also entitled to a price reduction or compensation for damages or both where the travel services are not performed or are improperly performed.
  • The organiser has to provide assistance if the traveller is in difficulty.
  • If the organiser or the retailer becomes insolvent, payments will be refunded. If the organiser or, where applicable, the retailer becomes insolvent after the start of the package and if transport is included in the package, repatriation of the travellers is secured. Naturetrek has taken out insolvency protection with ATOL administered by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Travellers may contact the CAA if services are denied because of Naturetrek’s insolvency. Their contact details are as follows: Consumer Protection Group, Civil Aviation Authority, CAA House, K3, 45-59 Kingsway, London, WC2B 6TE. Telephone: 0333 103 6700 (9.00am to 5.00pm).
