Across the heart of Central Asia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan present one of the most expansive and underexplored birding regions in the world. Their immense scale embraces a striking range of environments, from sweeping grasslands and arid deserts to forested valleys, alpine pastures, and the striking peaks of the Tien Shan. This diversity of landscapes creates ideal conditions for an exceptional variety of birdlife, where species of both European and Asian origin converge alongside many local specialities.

Below we present a small selection of the photographs taken by tour leader Chris Griffin on our Birds of Kazakhstan & Kyrgyzstan tour in May 2026. To view the images larger, please click on the crosshairs in the centre of each image.
