Martin Allen
Martin grew up in the UK and developed an early interest in wildlife, but it was a trip to Costa Rica in 2002 that ignited his enduring passion for birds. He moved to Australia in 2006, living first in Perth and later in Sydney, and has since travelled widely across the country in search of its avian specialities.
An active birder for more than 20 years, Martin has recorded over 670 Australian species and ranks among the top 100 eBird contributors in Australia. His extensive field experience spans a wide range of habitats, from coastal wetlands and forest to the arid interior.
Martin works as a bird keeper at Taronga Zoo in Sydney, gaining valuable insight into avian behaviour and husbandry. He is also a keen bird photographer and enjoys helping guests develop their identification and field skills.
He particularly enjoys guiding on the east coast, the outback and the Top End, where his experience – combined with a sharp ear for calls – helps guests connect with Australia’s remarkable birdlife.
