Summary
On this 2-night wildlife break we base ourselves in the middle of the New Forest National Park to enjoy its rich and varied natural history and also venture down to the marshes that line the edge of the Solent. We will look for birds such as Goshawk, Dartford Warbler, Woodlark and Hawfinch, along with an interesting variety of plants and insects. In the autumn we will also enjoy the wealth of forest fungi and head out in the evening to look for bats. Time on the coast may yield such birds as Spoonbill, Spotted Redshank, Ruff, Slavonian Grebe and flocks of newly arrived Brent Geese.
- Explore the New Forest National Park & learn about its ecology & history
- Birds may include Dartford Warbler, Woodlark, Goshawk & Hawfinch
- Look for fungi in the park’s ancient forests
- Explore the coastal wetlands of the Solent in search of migrating & wintering waders & waterfowl
- Raptors including Common Buzzard, Goshawk & Peregrine
- Spoonbill, Slavonian Grebe & Common Eider all likely
