Summary
Join us this January for a thrilling Naturetrek winter bird race in Norfolk, one of the UK’s premier birdwatching destinations. Designed for birders of all levels, this fast-paced tour blends friendly competition with expert-led exploration across some of East Anglia’s finest habitats.
The goal: to record as many bird species as possible in 48 hours. We will be in friendly competition with the best birding counties in Britain, so every species will count.
Our base is conveniently located near the north Norfolk coast, allowing quick access to iconic reserves such as Cley, Titchwell and Holkham. From waders on the Wash to Bitterns in the broads, from Shorelarks on the beaches to Pink-feet in the fields, the sheer variety on offer in Norfolk makes it a prime contender for the Naturetrek bird race crown. Expect wintering divers, seaducks, auks and grebes offshore; wild swans and wildfowl along fenland washes; Snow Buntings in the dunes, beardies in the reedbeds, thrushes in hedgerows and woodpeckers in woodlands. Maybe even a Waxwing or two if conditions are right.
Guided by local experts with intimate knowledge of the area and its winter birdlife, we move efficiently but enjoyably, with plenty of time for observing and learning. We’ll soak up everything the wild Norfolk landscape has to offer in this unique and exciting start to the birding year.
