Summary
Namibia is truly one of Africa's great wildlife destinations, a land of immense skies, dramatic landscapes and remarkable conservation success stories. From the vast salt pans of Etosha to the acacia-dotted savannahs of the central highlands, the country supports an astonishing diversity of wildlife, including some of the continent's most iconic predators. With a long history of innovative conservation and carefully managed private reserves, Namibia offers exceptional opportunities to observe wildlife in spacious, uncrowded surroundings while enjoying some of the finest safari accommodation in Africa.
This exciting wildlife holiday focuses on two outstanding reserves, each offering a different perspective on Namibia's remarkable predators and large mammals. We begin at Ongava, a private reserve bordering Etosha National Park, where day and night game drives, together with extended sessions in a superb photographic hide, provide opportunities to observe Leopard, Lion, Black and White Rhinoceros, Elephant and a wealth of other wildlife. The reserve's productive waterholes attract a constant procession of mammals and birds, while after dark the bushveld reveals a fascinating cast of nocturnal species that are seldom encountered elsewhere. We will also spend time exploring nearby Etosha National Park, one of Africa's great wildlife destinations, where we will make a special effort to find Cheetah, alongside the park's remarkable diversity of mammals and birds.
We then continue to Okonjima Nature Reserve, home to the renowned AfriCat Foundation and one of southern Africa's leading centres for predator conservation. Here, a series of specialist tracking activities offers the opportunity to search for Leopard, Brown Hyena and the extraordinary Temminck's Ground Pangolin, while accompanying experienced conservation staff provides a fascinating insight into the challenges of protecting Namibia's most threatened wildlife. Combined with comfortable accommodation, expert local guides and outstanding photographic opportunities, this tour offers an immersive exploration of Namibia's predators and the remarkable conservation initiatives that safeguard them.
An optional extension to Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe, offers excellent opportunities to see African Wild Dog and supports healthy populations of Lion and Leopard. The park is also home to a small population of Cheetah, along with Spotted Hyena and the scarcer Brown Hyena.
