A wonderful day out. The guide was incredibly knowledgeable about all the birds we heard and saw, and also about the local area. I live in Northumberland but didn't know about any of this beautiful woodland.

Summary
Join us for a beautiful early morning experience of bird song in wonderful mixed broadleaf woodland. The dawn chorus is a magical period not to be missed - the early song of resident Robins, Blackbirds and Thrushes joined with some special migrants all the way from Africa. Familiar warblers such as Chiff-Chaff, Blackcap and Willow Warbler are joined here by less common birds like Pied and Spotted Flycatchers, Redstarts and sometimes the increasing rare Wood Warbler with its gorgeous, silvery, trilling song.
The woodland itself has a rich variety of typical flora and the carpets of Ramsons (Wild Garlic) lend an atmosphere all of its own!
We will meet early at around 05.00 and spend time walking through Dipton Mill woodlands a few miles outside Hexham. The paths can be muddy and steep in places so walking isn’t entirely straightforward. We then intend to also visit the nearby Letah Wood (a short drive) – known for its wild Daffodils but also home to a variety of warblers, flycatchers and Common Redstarts.
In total we expect to walk up to six miles or so and our intention is to finish the day around 13.00.
- Pied Flycatchers, Redstarts and various wonderful Warblers in full song
- Experience the splendour of a full dawn chorus as resident and migrant birds fill the woods with their songs
- Carpets of woodland flowers – Wood Anemone, Wood Sorrel, Bluebells, pungent Ramsons and wild Daffodils.

Really enjoyed the day trip to Tynedale listening to the dawn chorus with Keith [Buchanan, tour leader]. He is very knowledgeable and has a rye sense of humour . Had fabulous views of pied flycatchers, willow warblers and wood warblers. Also saw common redstart too. I would thoroughly recommend the day.
