Summary

"Help Nature While You Enjoy It" is the theme of this journey - you will be involved in an extensive Citizen's Science programme aimed at better understanding Australia's unique biodiversity. South-eastern Australia contains the most complex and diverse ecosystems of the island continent - in a relatively small area. Starting out from Melbourne, we will first visit the You Yang Ranges to speak to spend time at a Koala research and conservation project. We’ll then move on to the 50,000 hectare Hattah-Kulkyne National Park, famed for its incredible mix of dryland and wetland bird life and other wildlife in an extraordinary environment where both red and yellow sand dunes meet riverine forest beside a large system of natural lakes and wetlands. We’ll then continue our journey north into the Outback to Mungo National Park to see Australia's suite of desert flora and fauna and learn about the ancient Aboriginal culture of this area, including the oldest human burial sites in the world. This trip is specially scheduled to operate during the spring breeding season to allow for the absolute best wildlife sightings.

  • Become involved in conservation and wildlife projects
  • Visit two very different UNESCO RAMSAR wetlands
  • Assist with the conservation of wild koalas with the Koala Clancy Foundation
  • Visit Outback World Heritage Area at Mungo National Park - oldest human burial site
  • Opportunities to see many species of macropods, monotremes and other marsupials
  • Abundant birdlife in temperate, warm temperate, coastal and desert environments
