Paul has been obsessed with wildlife, and birds in particular, since seeing a Green Woodpecker on the garden lawn in his youth. His formative years were spent exploring the countryside on the edge of the Chilterns and the Colne Valley where he trained as a bird ringer, before broadening his birding horizons with regular visits to Norfolk, Scilly and Scotland. He has continued his travels in search of birds across the globe with an affinity for island birds and a love of the wader tribe. A former county bird recorder, Paul has co-written several books on Bedfordshire's birds as well as numerous articles over the years for newspapers, journals and magazines such as Birdwatching, Birdwatch and Countryman, and is also a regular blogger. Previous activities have included carrying out ecological surveys and managing a wetland reserve in Dunstable. For the past 20 years Paul has been running Plovers Bird Tours based on Romney Marsh alongside volunteering at Dungeness RSPB reserve.
