Paco Madrigal
Paco Madrigal is a highly respected guide with more than 30 years’ experience leading natural history, birding, and wildlife tours throughout his native Costa Rica and neighbouring Panama.
He grew up in the tropical lowland rainforests of Sarapiquí, close to the Organization for Tropical Studies’ La Selva Biological Station, where an early immersion in the region’s extraordinary flora and fauna shaped his future career. Paco’s professional journey began when he was selected for the very first intensive naturalist training programme run by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). He subsequently went on to study Ornithology and English at the University of Florida.
Paco began his guiding career at La Selva Biological Station, where he also worked in field research and contributed to the station’s environmental education programme.
With decades of experience in the field, Paco’s exceptional knowledge of tropical ecology, sharp spotting skills, and infectious enthusiasm have earned him a reputation as one of the world’s finest birding and wildlife guides.
