Nigel Smallbones, Tour Leader

Nigel was brought up in Uganda until he was 11 years of age when he moved to England. His experiences as a boy kindled his interest in the natural environment and has worked for 40 years as Ranger/Countryside Manager in different parts of the country from South Wales, the Midlands and finally Torbay, as Ranger and then Countryside Manager of Berry Head Country Park and now National Nature Reserve in 1985. Nigel has spent many years monitoring the seabird colony at Berry Head, recording and habitat management of the rare limestone sea cliff plants of Berry Head, cetacean monitoring and 25 years of recording the Harbour Porpoise using the sea area off Berry Head. Nigel has also helped to set up visitor centres on Berry Head and a marine centre at Goodrington Sands as well as education programmes, running guided walks, events, wildlife boat trips and public speaking.
