Kris McBride
Born in New Zealand, Kris moved to Australia in 1996 and has been involved with its wildlife ever since. Now based in Brisbane, he is an experienced birder and wildlife professional with more than a decade working in the field. His local patch is Brisbane and south‑east Queensland, and he also knows Cairns and the Wet Tropics well.
Beyond the east coast, Kris has spent considerable time in south‑west Western Australia, giving him a strong knowledge of two of the country’s most important endemic‑rich regions. He is particularly good on bird calls and enjoys helping participants sharpen their identification skills.
Kris has several years’ experience in specialist birding tour operations, building itineraries and coordinating international programmes, which gives him a clear understanding of how to keep a trip running smoothly and at the right pace. Alongside guiding, he works in wildlife management across south‑east Queensland, undertaking bird surveys, Koala monitoring and habitat assessments. This field experience adds depth to his guiding and brings a practical conservation perspective.
Friendly, organised and down to earth, Kris combines strong field skills with a genuine enthusiasm for sharing Australia’s birdlife.
