Gavin MacLean
After 30 years working in the development planning and engineering sector, Gavin is now a freelance field ecologist specialising in birds and botany. Based in Hampshire, his natural history interests began as a young teenager, supported by his father, a biological sciences academic. Since then, he has travelled widely overseas (in excess of 50 countries), now having seen half of the world’s bird species, and particularly enjoys trips to Spanish speaking countries to indulge his interest in the Spanish language!
His botanical interests are particularly focused upon alpine plants, and he is a regular visitor to his Scottish homeland, combining his love of the remote highlands with searches for botanical treasures. Outside of the wildlife sphere, Gavin was a county-level tennis and badminton player in his youth, and is now an obsessive Padel tennis player, competing at club and county levels with his two sons.
