Federico Mangili
Federico Mangili is a passionate botanist and naturalist with a deep interest in high-altitude flora, endemic species, and orchids. Born and still residing in Bergamo, he serves as the scientific coordinator of the Flora Alpina Bergamasca group, an association dedicated to studying and researching the flora of the Lombardy Alps.
A true expert on the Alpine environment, Federico pursued his passion through academic studies, earning a PhD in Natural Sciences focused on endemic Alpine species. His research recently led to the description of a new species, Campanula bergomensis, and he is the author or co-author of several scientific publications.
An avid nature photographer, Federico has explored diverse regions in search of rare and unique plant species—from the Alps to the Greek islands, the Canary Islands, and central-southern Italy. In recent years, his work has concentrated on the orchids of the Gargano, a region he has visited many times.
Federico combines rigorous scientific research with a strong commitment to sharing knowledge. Guided by the belief that “you cannot protect what you do not know”, he enthusiastically leads wildlife tours, helping others discover and appreciate the beauty and importance of biodiversity.
