Andy Mears

Andy learnt his birds around the meres and flashes of south Cheshire. Formative memories were of Buzzards and Yellowhammers, on family holidays to Devon and Wales around the age of 12. Now, having lived in Somerset for 35 years, he knows and loves birding the Somerset Levels! Short trips to the Isles of Scilly, Shetland and Orkney have always been annual highlights, but Andy's birding abroad began with a bang, with a trip to Sumatra. This led to a focus on Asia and lowland rainforests. Subsequently, Africa and South America have featured strongly. Ask him about pittas or big cats and he may have a tale or two to tell! Andy has a had a long career as an environmental scientist working nine to five, but with most holidays committed to seeing birds.
