Cambridgeshire-based Dr Andrew Tongue is a professional ornithologist and has been interested in in birds and other wildlife since he was very young. Growing up near to the RSPB’s Sandy HQ, Andrew was in regular contact with some of the biggest names in bird conservation from an early age. His first job was as a field teacher-naturalist at the RSPB’s Fowlmere reserve, and he has since worked in ornithological consultancy, at the RSPB Centre for Conservation Science and as a postdoctoral researcher in the effects of microplastics on wildlife. Andrew’s PhD was in avian toxicology, in particular toxic flame retardant concentrations, impacts and exposure pathways in landfill-foraging gulls. A keen birder, Andrew is often at his local Little Paxton Pits nature reserve. He is a regular visitor to Norfolk and Shetland also.
