Martin has lived in Devon all his life and has enjoyed a lifelong interest in natural history. A trained Early Years teacher, on retirement he returned to college and took a course in Forest School Leadership, qualifying in 2012 as a Forest School Leader. He ran a variety of Forest School activities until moving to North Devon in 2015. Since then he has led birdwatching groups for the U3A and Devon Birds. Martin also leads the birdwatching walks for the Appledore Book Festival which takes place annually.
