Stephen Buckle

Stephen Buckle

After a brief flirtation with astronomy, Stephen has been a keen birder since the age of 13 and still remembers finding birds such as Short-eared Owl and Whinchat while walking the family dog from his parents' home in north-east England. Despite this interest, Stephen spent most of his professional life as a software engineer and maths teacher. Although these careers led him to spend his working life indoors, they also provided opportunities to live and 'bird' in both North and South America. Since returning to the UK, Stephen has volunteered for both the RSPB and BTO, including stints as a 'hide guide' at RSPB Saltholme, and (currently) as a Roving Ranger at Titchwell Marsh. Now a resident of Cambridgeshire, Stephen has been organising and leading birdwatching trips for a group based in Cambridge since 2013, and helping to lead Naturetrek tours since 2023.
