Fernando is a senior ecologist based in northern Spain, where has worked for various NGOs over the past 25 years in the protection and conservation of the environment. He has worked as a director for various LIFE projects, working closely with threatened species such as Aquatic Warbler and on the recovery and management of La Nava lake in Palencia and the Canal de Castilla (Palencia, Castilla y León). Fernando loves all birds, mammals and lepidoptera (moths as well as butterflies), being Palencia's regional recorder for all groups. He’s currently involved in long term studies on Dusky Large Blue, Wildcat and Short-eared Owl. A keen bee-keeper and all-round naturalist, Fernando leads our butterfly holidays in the Picos de Europa and Montana Palentina with abundant charm, local knowledge and expertise.
