Cassie Mercer

Cassie’s childhood watching birds with her grandfather in Essex, England, grew a curiosity for learning about anything wild, and a particular alertness for spotting birds. A year travelling around Australia encouraged her to pursue her love of wildlife through conservation work. After graduating with a first-class degree including research in Namibia, followed by volunteer work in Asia, Europe and South America, she learned far more about the serious hard work of hands-on conservation during seven years with The Wildlife For All Trust in Sussex and South Africa. Managing a remote wilderness reserve of 30,700 acres in the succulent Karoo and pushing herself beyond boundaries was a positively character-changing experience! Having since enjoyed six months amongst the forests and wild coast of Washington, USA, followed by a winter hiking and photographing the Scottish Highlands, Cassie joins Naturetrek in March 2022 mindful of humanity’s impact on our natural environment and keen to share her knowledge and enthusiasm with the purpose of inspiring positive change.
