A day exploring the limestone landscape of the Arnside Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, featuring stunning views of southern Cumbria, the Kent Estuary and the idyllic town of Arnside.

Join our Naturetrek tour leader to explore this beautiful part of NW England. The Arnside AONB has a range of habitats including limestone pavement, woodland and estuary. It is a rich area for butterflies, birds and orchids (late summer will be predominately birds). We will explore Arnside Knott and Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve (managed by Natural England) and finish by looking out onto Morecambe Bay in the hope of seeing an Osprey and some waders. The two main sites have circular walks and we expect to cover approximately 8 miles. Arnside has a famous and excellent fish and chip shop which may provide a fitting end to the day!

  • Possible butterflies include Duke of Burgundy, Pearl-bordered Fritillary and Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary, Orange Tip
  • Possible orchids include Lady’s Slipper, Greater Butterfly and Lesser Butterfly
