On this new ‘Go Slow’ birdwatching and natural history holiday we take you to the beautiful Caribbean island of Trinidad, for a relaxing 7- night stay at the world renowned Asa Wright Centre. Located only 15 kilometres from the coast of Venezuela, the small island of Trinidad boasts an incredible variety of wildlife, with over 400 species of bird, 97 native mammals, 55 reptiles and 617 butterflies recorded to date. Only 50 miles long, by 37 miles wide, the island is dominated by the Northern Range and it is here, amongst 2,000 acres of protected rainforest that you will find the magical Asa Wright Centre. During our stay we will enjoy a relaxed programme of leisurely walks from our comfortable base, and full day excursions to nearby sites of interest, with plenty of time allocated to birding from the centre’s famous veranda. At this time of year Leatherback Turtles begin nesting on the island’s beaches and, with luck, we will have the chance to see these magnificent giants of the ocean emerging to lay their eggs.
