Summary
Join Captain Keith on board his state-of-the-art catamaran as we aim to set sail into the Western Approaches of the English Channel in search of a variety of exciting seabirds, with the added possibility of viewing Short-beaked Common Dolphin, Risso's Dolphin, and hopefully, large groups of Bluefin Tuna 'boiling' at the surface. The list of seabirds which have been attracted to Captain Keith's special chum mixture is almost endless, with Wilson's Petrel, European Storm Petrel, Great and Cory's Shearwaters and Sabine's Gull all annual, plus there is always the unexpected. During this 7-hour voyage, we will first inspect the coastline for Grey Seals, Peregrine Falcons and Whimbrel as we steam southwards out of Falmouth, before either heading south-east or south-west, depending on previous sightings of any feeding frenzies. At the correct time, we will then steam and chum to attract a host of seabirds into a slick, where views of such birds can be unrivalled. We will always be keeping a lookout for surfacing Minke or Fin Whales (now a regular feature here in August, September and October), Ocean Sunfish or Blue Shark, plus those birds not attracted to the chum mixture.
The vessel has wheelchair access, forward-facing seats with backrests, all-round viewing, inside shelter and tea/coffee making facilities.
Meeting/Start time for the day will be at 10am for a 1030am sailing and we will hope to finish no later than 5.30pm.
