This was an excellent 4 days with interesting visits to appropriate habitats, which satisfied all of my wish list for Butterflies and Odonata. Russ, our tour leader, was excellent. He was very approachable, so knowledgeable and happy to answer any and all questions. His knowledge of the Butterflies, Odonata, flora and fauna was exceptional and his willingness to share this made the tour even more pleasurable

Summary
On an annual basis, 48 species of butterfly are recorded in the county of Dorset! The rich variety of important habitats support some of our rarest and localised species, including the endemic Lulworth Skipper. Despite its name, this butterfly is found all along the coastline between Portland in the west, to Swanage in the east, and although not striking in appearance, it will be a highlight of this dedicated butterfly tour! Recently, Large Tortoiseshells have become loyal on the Isle of Portland, and whilst searching for this rare butterfly, we might come across the camouflaged Grayling too. Further searches to all corners of the county will hope to produce sightings of White-letter Hairstreak and the abundant Silver-studded Blue; the latter is found on both chalk and sandy soils! Based close to Dorchester, we are perfectly positioned to visit a wide variety of wildlife-rich habitats.
