Jan Fox – Tailormade Consultant

He is also an Editorial Consultant – using his broad print and web design skills to assist with the production of our newsletters, brochures and other marketing materials.

Life Before Naturetrek

Jan was born and lived in Kenya for 32 years – so his connection to East Africa’s people and wild places is deeply embedded. Travel has always formed a big part of his life: from countless safaris to every corner of Kenya, trekking with Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park and Ethiopian Wolves in the Bale Mountains, to an epic journey by road from Mombasa to Johannesburg in a classic 1976 Range Rover, and slow wanderings across Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos.

After completing his bachelor’s degree in African history and master’s degree in development studies at London’s School of Oriental and African Studies, Jan worked as a director of a Nairobi-based consultancy firm, monitoring humanitarian projects in Somalia. His fieldwork across East Africa allowed him to hone his travel writing skills, contributing for over a decade to a weekly travel column in the region’s largest newspaper. In 2020, he founded Wilder Magazine – a quarterly publication featuring compelling conservation and adventure travel stories from across the globe. In addition, he has spent much of 2023 co-authoring a book on sustainable travel to Kenya. Outside of work, he is a keen wildlife photographer and runner.
