Mammal Watching Holidays

Naturetrek is a specialist tour operator offering one of the largest selections of professionally-organised group wildlife tours and natural history holidays around the world. Many of these expert-escorted group tours have a primary focus on mammals, or a joint focus on mammals and birds, and are guided by at least one professional naturalist-tour leader, generally with a detailed knowledge of the area to be visited. On many tours, as well as the mammals, we also enjoy both the birds and plants, often taking additional guides with us to act as tour ornithologist or botanist. Additionally, our groups are often accompanied by an expert local guide in order to further broaden the educational value of each holiday, for on each trip we like to extend our interest beyond that of just mammals, birds and/or plants, and to be as broad-minded as possible without necessarily compromising our main pursuit.

 

Unlike many other wildlife tour operators, with the exception of the action-packed, intensive birding tours offered in our separate bargain selection, we do not aim to race from place to place in minibuses with the sole purpose of accumulating long lists of mammals and birds, ultimately to be forgotten. Instead we try, as much as is reasonably possible within a particular country, to spend as much time as we can searching for wildlife on foot. In this way we generally cover less ground than other tour operators, but we do see far more in the areas that we visit.

 

This more relaxed approach provides a greater flexibility to our holidays than is offered by some other birdwatching and natural history tour operators, thereby often providing more scope and time for photography, detailed wildlife exploration, relaxation, and in which to take an interest in the region's people, culture, history and architecture. Above all we want your holiday to be fun as well as informative; and when we take you to a country, we hope that we can inspire you to such an extent that you will be only too keen to return.

 

Whilst Naturetrek started by, and still specialises in, organising wildlife treks to remote and mountainous areas of the world, today the overwhelming majority of our holidays are more leisurely, amongst them a mouth-watering range of wildlife cruises, single-centre wildlife breaks and traditional hotel-based minibus tours. Thus, whatever your age, ability and aspirations, we hope that we can offer a holiday for you to enjoy.
