Wildlife holidays to Mexico
Tell me about Mexico …
Mexico is a fascinating and vibrant country, a colourful land steeped in history, myth and legend.
This was the home of the ancient Aztec, Toltec and Maya civilisations, whose great pyramids rival those of Egypt. It was also landfall for the first of the Spanish Conquistadors as they searched for the fabled Cities of Gold.
Today, Mexico is a modern and welcoming country, far removed from our stereotypic image of Hollywood Westerns full of cacti, tequila and banditos wearing oversize sombreros and moustaches! Indeed it is a beautiful country of many contrasts, from the hot cacti-filled deserts so favoured by moviemakers, to the lush tropical rainforests of the south.
Our Mexico specialist recommends...
"I recommend our ‘Baja California & Sea of Cortez’ whale watching holiday for its memorable, close-up encounters with Grey Whales as well as a huge variety of other cetaceans."
Whats special about its wildlife?
Baja California has long been described as the Galapagos of Mexico. From the Pacific-pounded shores of its western coastline round to the sheltered blue waters of the Sea of Cortez, this 1,285-kilometre peninsula (one of the worlds longest) is home to a diversity of wildlife that could easily rival Darwins more famous islands over 1,600 kilometres to the south.
Flocks of Magnificent Frigatebirds soar overhead, while lines of Brown Pelicans and Brants Cormorants file over the seas surface, and hundreds of sea lions rest on isolated rocky islands.
Inland, Crested Caracaras sit atop the huge Cardon Cacti which cover much of the desert interior and tiny hummingbirds sip nectar from a variety of colourful desert plants.

WHAT YOU'VE BEEN SAYING ABOUT OUR Mexico HOLIDAYS
This was a truly outstanding experience. We had it all! Exceptional viewings of 7 species of whale, generally calm seas, blue skies & sunshine, enthusiastic & knowledgeable guides, superb food, brilliant birdwatching, special experiences snorkelling, a friendly funny and helpful crew, good company and amenable group and don’t forget the dolphins..thank you!
Tom McJannet was a very knowledgeable birder, he made sure that everyone spotted the birds on the walks. He was very helpful and made sure that we were all very comfortable. Karel, the local guide, was very good!! He informed us each morning of our daily agenda, helped in communications with the local staff, and made excellent arrangements for our stay in Mexico. We were a very happy cohesive group, we all got along with each other exceptionally well. Not only do I feel that the group were travelling companions, but they are also friends. I had a wonderful time and the trip met my expectations. At the end it seemed like it passed all too quickly!
Excellent trip all round. Both Tim and Scott were great tour leaders at all times imparting excellent commentary backed up with sound knowledge of the flora and fauna. The Captain and crew of the Spirit of Adventure were faultless in their care and our needs. Congratulations and many thanks to all. Well done.
