Summary

The dragonflies and damselflies found in the remote regions of the Highlands are most sought-after by Odonata enthusiasts. On this new tour, we will be in search of all of the region's specialities, including Azure Hawker, Northern Emerald and Northern Damselfly. This 2-centre holiday, with two nights based in the Cairngorms National Park and three nights based in Gairloch, will allow us to visit a number of key dragonfly sites to hopefully give us plenty of opportunities to find our target species, and of course, explore these spectacular landscapes.

Although Odonata will be our main focus, it will be hard to ignore the vast number of orchids, butterflies and birds on this tour and there will be many wildlife highlights throughout. 

Please note the start of this tour is in the Cairngorms and the end is in Gairloch.

  • Azure Hawker, Northern Emerald & Northern Damselfly all likely
  • Other species may include White-faced Darter, Golden-ringed Dragonfly, Common Hawker and Brilliant Emerald
  • Stunning scenery in the Cairngorms National Park & Loch Maree
  • Orchids comprise Lesser Butterfly, Coralroot and Small White Orchids
  • Butterflies include Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary and Large Heath
  • Visit the wonderful town of Gairloch
