Wildlife Holidays in Malawi
Tell me about Malawi …
Malawi is a land-locked country lying at the southern end of the Great Rift Valley.
A small nation by African standards, its mountains, marshes and lakes – situated between 40 metres and 3,000 metres above sea level – offer a wide diversity of scenery. Lake Malawi dominates the country geographically and is the third largest lake in Africa.
The people of Malawi are among the friendliest people on the continent, and have earned their country the title of ‘the warm heart of Africa’.
Malawi offers excellent opportunities for exploring on foot – there’s some fabulous mountain walking, and the absence of Lions in lowland reserves allows us to enjoy the wildlife away from the confines of the usual ‘protective’ minibus.
What’s special about its wildlife?
Malawi offers many wildlife treats that are not easily encountered elsewhere. Among these are:
- Malawi's rare antelopes – the Sable, Roan & Nyala
- The unique aquarium and brilliantly coloured tropical fish found in Lake Malawi
- Flower-filled uplands & montane forests that are home to some of Africa's rarest birds
Naturetrek Tour to Malawi

Fabulous walking opportunities are possible in many of the places visited, including Liwonde National Park, Lake Malawi, Vwaza Marsh Game Reserve and the Nyika Plateau.
